Critiques

The best writers never stop honing their skills, never stop learning, never stop growing.

Submitting your novel, memoir, or nonfiction manuscript for critique is a risk you may not feel prepared to take. What if my writing isn’t good enough? What if my ideas aren’t valuable? What if I’ve worked so hard for nothing?

What if you’ve come this far only to let the perceived risk keep you from taking the next step?

Isn’t that the more important question to ask?

A critique from an industry professional offers many benefits, includian evaluation of your strengths as a writer and an assessment of areas for continued growth.

  • teaching on craft – aspects of your writing you can continue honing.
  • an evaluation of your project including content, structure, pacing, character development, character arcs, story arc, etc.
  • encouragement to keep going, keep working, and keep writing.
  • clarity for your next step.

What sets a critique apart from a developmental edit? The teaching I include with a critique is different that what I include with a developmental edit. Included with each critique are examples of craft techniques, links to posts on techniques, and recommended resources to help you continue honing your skills.
