Recommendations

Whether it’s a website host, writing software, a writer’s conference, or a craft book, when I find something that’s worked well for me or offered something I’ve needed as a writer, I want to pass that information on to other writers.

Affiliate Links and Writers

The links to the Craft Books and the gadgets in the Tech section are affiliate links. Affiliate links offer those who post them an opportunity to earn a small percentage of any purchase made when the link is used. As writers, using affiliate links is a way to supplement your income. Will affiliate links make you rich? Not likely. But you can include them on your website, in your blog posts, or social media posts, and receive a small kickback.

The most common affiliate links are those that link back to Amazon. If you’re intersted in Amazon’s affiliate program, learn more here.

Do you regularly recommend other companies or products? Ask if they have an affiliate program.

Interspersed in my recommendations are a few other affiliate links. My promise to you is to only recommend items or services I’ve used and have found valuable.

Writing  Craft Books

These are the books I recommend most often to coaching clients or those who’ve submitted their work for critique. Each of these books can also be found on the shelves in my office and have informed my own writing. Click on the book covers to learn more about the book and make your purchase.

Service Providers

Website Host: Bluehost

Bluehost is the host of this website and I’ve found their service affordable and the customer service outstanding.

Email List Server: MailChimp

Email List Server: MailerLite

I use both MailChimp and MailerLite for different accounts. As the name implies, MailerLite is light on features, but it is a wonderful option for those with smaller email lists or those not interested in more advanced features. MailChimp has more features and you’ll pay a bit more for those features.

Graphics: Canva Pro

I don’t know what I’d do without Canva Pro. I use it almost daily to create social media graphics, and graphics for ALL kinds of other things. They have wonderful templates and tutorials. It is well worth the reasonable fee.

Software

Ebook & Print Formatting: Vellum

Vellum is excellent! It makes formatting your ebook and print books so easy and the end result is beautiful. Best part? It’s affordable – likely less than you’d pay someone to format just one book.

Writing Software: Scrivener

As you may know, there’s a steep learning curve for Scrivener, but it is worth the time and investment. The software is inexpensive and you’ll fine a plethora of classes online to choose from if you want help learning all the features Scrivener offers. I took a course taught by Gwen Hernandez. Worth it!

Tech

The events of 2020 meant that we were all on-camera – Zoom, Facebook Live, etc. – more than ever. The following tech is my setup for podcasting, Zoom, and anything else I do on-camera.

My critera for tech: affordable and easy to use.
