How are you caring for the gift of words God entrusts to you?
As a writer who is also a Christian, I hold two foundational beliefs related to caring for the gift of words God entrusts to me. First, to write well, I must care for myself holistically—I must care for my mind, body, and soul. Second, to write well, I must read widely.
Honestly, when I’m busy, the first things I let go are the practices that accompany those beliefs—the healthy habits that feed my mind, body, soul, and craft. I let those practices go because I wrongly believe they take precious time away from my work and writing. Instead, those healthy practices actually extend my writing time by increasing my focus and productivity.
Let’s band together to read and discuss books that encourage physical, emotional, and spiritual health, as well as books meant to help us grow as writers.
A sampling of titles for the 2023 Words for Writers Book Club.
Because I believe it is important to read widely, the titles selected for the WfW Book Club will represent authors from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and belief systems. As Christians who believe the Spirit of God resides within us, we can trust the Spirit as we read to help us discern which thoughts and practices we each choose to adopt.

What You’ll Do

- Purchase and read the book(s) recommended each month
- Join the WfW Book Club Facebook Group, where members can post thoughts about the books and interact
- Participate in a monthly book discussion via Zoom on the last Thursday of each month, 4:00 p.m. Pacific time
