What’s Holding You Back?

Writing words others will read is an act of vulnerability. It’s a bold act. It’s one that requires courage. And sometimes, we feel more hesitant than brave.

Why?

After years of chasing the dream to write, after decades of staring down the challenges, and after more years coaching other writers, I’ve discovered what I believe are the two most common issues holding writers back.

The first issue is a lack of confidence.

We’re afraid we’re not good enough. Don’t know enough. Don’t have what it takes. Have too little to offer. We compare ourselves to others, then we shut down. Or at least slow down.

The solution is simple…

Writers build confidence as they hone their skills.

Writers build confidence as they learn to trust themselves and their process.

The solution is simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.

The second most common issue I’ve identifed that holds writers back is a lack of focus.

We begin well, we’re passionate about a project, but when we sit down to work, our mind goes in ten or more directions. Or maybe we struggle to focus enough to ever sit down to work in the first place.

Again, the solution is simple…

Writers sharpen their focus as they adopt habits and mindsets that both prepare their

brain and train their brain to concentrate on the work at hand.

The solution is simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy…

With nearly 25-years of writing and publishing experience, and training as a coach through Western Seminary’s Coaching Program, I’ve determined that the common denominator between a lack of confidence and a lack of focus is fear.

When we deal with the core issue, when we hone our skills, and when we adopt new practices that help train our brain for the work of writing, we move forward.

I’d like to help you move forward and help you complete your next project by working with you to hone your skills and train your brain to stay focused on your work.

We’re better together. Always.

If you’d like to determine whether or not we’d work well together, schedule a FREE 15-minute coaching session and let’s see where it leads. I’d love to talk with you!

Let's Talk...

“Over the last decade, I’ve worked with many writing coaches. Ginny takes coaching to a whole new level, above and beyond what I’ve experienced before. She immerses herself in her client’s writing and gets to know the person behind the pen. During a recent coaching session, she referenced a metaphor from my writing, integrating my own words into our mutual coaching vocabulary. Nobody has ever paid this much attention or applied it so intentionally. I know the dangers of over-idealizing any human being, but I feel like Ginny is the “perfect” writing coach for me.”
